MONO's 'Dec-A-Doughnut' Competition Winner Announced!

The WINNER of MONO's 2016 Dec-A-Doughnut Competition is Berris Evans from Caffi Cariad, Pontypridd, South Wales!
MONO's Dec-A-Doughnut Competition was launched on the Silver Anniversary of National Doughnut Week, in aid of The Children's Trust. Sponsored by CSM Bakery Solutions, National Doughnut Week has become a favourite annual event by doughnut lovers and doughnut makers alike.
When evaluating the superb entries to MONO's Dec-A-Doughnut Competition, the judges were looking for the following criteria:
- the overall design
- the creativity used in the design along with the use of colours and textures
- the originality of the design
Berris kindly provided a summary of her inspiration for the design, which came from happy childhood memories at the beach:
"My childhood memories of doughnuts were having them at the beach freshly cooked in front of you, so a beach scene was my inspiration here. The 'bikini' top was made from traditional jam doughnuts, the 'boat' from a finger doughnut, the 'flip-flops' were made by slicing a finger doughnut through the middle and the 'floats' were covered mini-doughnuts. All materials are edible."
The judges felt Berris' entry completely captured the true essence of the competition by demonstrating great creativity, skill, humour and imagination in a beautifully executed and colourful design.
Berris was overjoyed when presented with her new Bear Teddy Mixer by MONO's Christian Trubey and said,
"I'm absolutely shocked and delighted to have won MONO's competition. This is the first time in my life I have actually won anything! I'm completely lost for words... The mixer I'm using at the moment is over 30 years old, so this wonderful new Teddy is going to make so much difference to my business. I can't thank you enough!"
MONO is delighted that the Teddy Bear Mixer has gone to such a deserving winner. We would like to thank Berris and Caffi Cariad for putting so much effort into the doughnut entry and hope that, with the help of her new mixer, she will continue to devise such eye-catching creations.
